About the Project

The Improving Reach project is a new project funded by Capacity  Builders, which is being led by Pendle Community Network of Nelson.

The project is split into two parts: rural development and migrant communities development. It aims to support rural groups and migrant communities across Pennine Lancashire.

Two Migrant Population Outreach Workers have recently been employed to work with the Eastern European migrant population, throughout Hyndburn, Rossendale, Pendle & Burnley. They will strive to empower and develop migrant communities in a number of ways, including: providing them with a collective voice to speak out about the issues they face; help them set up and develop their own community interest groups; and influence the delivery of services which support them. This will ease their integration within the wider community.

A Rural Outreach Worker has also been employed to work across Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale and Hyndburn  empowering rural communities to express their views about local issues through district based forums and to support the development of existing and emerging community groups.

As this is a new project, the first steps will be to work with Statutory and third sector partners to identify priority areas for development. Subsequently, needs assessments will be carried out and action plans formulated & delivered for specific groups in the community.
