Welcome to Migrant Community Development

Migrant Community Development

Migration is a key theme of our age. Its role in a modern 21st century economy is likely to intensify, not diminish. Clear-sighted strategies and leadership by organisations on migration in their local areas will play an important part in shaping the successful places and communities of the future.

Migration poses challenges for community cohesion: Migrants should be helped to settle and get used to how things work in the local area but, in addition, the settled community needs to be helped to adapt to the change in their community. Thus, wherever possible, settled communities should be Informed about migration into the area and supplied with reliable and accurate information about where newcomers have arrived from, why they have come, the implications of their arrival, their needs and the benefits they bring to the community.

The Improving Reach Project aims to address these matters in a positive and creative way by working alongside Eastern European migrant communities and settled communities within Pendle, Burnley, Hyndburn and Rossendale.
