Alkincoats allotment association was set up in April 2005 by a group of allotment holders to try and improve the overall state of the allotment site which had become a bit run down, achieve full tenancy of all plots and to organise courses to improve peoples knowledge of gardening with a particular emphasis on organic methods.

As we had a waiting list off 25 our first objective to get full tenancy was achieved quite quickly and resulted in a membership of our new association of around 20 members.

Our second objective to set up courses was also achieved quite quickly we ran an eight week organic gardening course last winter in association with three other local groups Colne Horticultural Society, Hodge House allotment Association and Pendle productive Landscapes at the Waterbridge Centre Colne. The course which had a capacity of 12 was three times over subscribed and I am currently trying to raise funds to run another course this winter.

The third objective to improve access to the site requires about £4k and we are also trying to raise funds for this project along with the education package.

To date we have managed to secure one grant from Lancashire Green Partnership for £700.00.
