Brierfield Action in the Community was formed in 2002 with the purpose of improving the lives of the residents and their environment. We would also be there to help small Brierfield groups obtain funding for their projects and help in any way we could.
We formed a Company Limited by Guarantee with a Board of ten directors and also registered with the Charity commission.
Our first large project was the Cyber Cafe. We obtained funding to buy and renovate the property in the centre of Brierfield, to employ a Project Manager and sessional staff.
We now have a games room, a music room and a separate computer room for any ladies who wish to use this facility.
We also have a conference room which we can rent out.
The Cyber Cafe provides a base for the Neighbourhood Management team and also a room for the Alternative Education project dealing with pupils who have been excluded from their school.
The number of people using the computers continues to increase. There are now between 70 and 80 people visiting the Cyber Cafe every day.
We have several exciting new projects in the pipeline and are just in the process of acquiring the necessary funding.
